This house in Newport Beach has been our family home for the last twenty years. It has been extensively remodeled to feel like a sophisticated mix of “elegant cottage” with a little twist of “French farmhouse” … with a mix of modern art. Sounds terrible, feels good. Many floor plan changes were made to accommodate our family & friend's needs. Architectural interest and detail were given with vintage timbers, French oak floors in beautiful patterns, and lovely bronze windows with historic-styled glass and putty. Natural materials including wood and stone add a variety of age and earthy textures to an ethereal palette. Most ceilings and walls were covered in wire-brushed oak panels and most surfaces were chosen as backdrops for the real-life additions of family, food, and flowers! This light-filled home now enjoys views of the ocean and gardens on both sides. Coastal breezes and the scent of lavender, thyme, and climbing roses fill the air. This project has won numerous ASID Design Excellence awards.
